Feed the Future Nepal USAID Agricultural Transformation  is a new five-year USAID-funded activity in Nepal. The purpose of Agricultural Transformation is to catalyze the transformation of Nepal’s agricultural sector required for inclusive economic growth. The project is implemented by a consortium of Winrock International (prim),  Center for Environmental and Agricultural Policy, Research, Extension and Development (CEAPRED) and four other consortium member and  partners.

Agricultural Transformation will contribute to the GON’s long-term vision for agricultural development as expressed in the Agriculture Development Strategy 2015-2035 20  by advancing each of the four outcome areas that comprise the strategy: Governance, Productivity, Competitiveness, and Profitable Commercialization. The project will build the strategic partnership with the government at all three tiers. In doing so, it will build their capacity to replicate business models and best practices that promote agricultural transformation, a central goal of GON’s agricultural development agenda.  The project aims to achieve the following four objectives:

Objective 1: Agricultural productivity, competitiveness, and diversification

increased

Objective 2: Enabling environment for private sector investment in agriculture and

equitable access to market systems improved

Objective 3: Climate and economic resilience of women, youth, and marginalized

communities enhanced

Objective 4: Capacity of national agricultural research institutions and extension

systems strengthened.

The project will follow a two pronged project implementation approach. First, the project will reach at least 400,000 households. Secondly, the project will provide Technical Assistance to GON counterparts and the private sector to scale the Activity’s market systems business models to reach, an additional 100,000 households outside of the areas of focus and direct implementation. The overall household target for the Agricultural Transformation  will be 500,000 households.
