NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

The impact study aims to assess the impact of the aquaculture interventions in Rupandehi and Nawalparasi on household food security, nutrition, and livelihoods of participants and non-participants in the Agriculture and Nutrition Extension Programme (ANEP) –Aquaculture, whose implementation commenced in 2012 and will continue till 2014.

The study will include a series of independent surveys carried out at different stages to examine various aspects of the aquaculture project. These include a household, farm system, and livelihood survey, which will study issues such as income, changes in food consumption patterns and nutrition, gender participation in project related activities, and the integration of agriculture and aquaculture systems. Participants of the project as well as non-participants living in the same geographic localities will be interviewed. Six data enumerators and three field officers are responsible for the data collection and entry.

Data will be collected at different stages (weekly and monthly) from households over the period of one year and this information will be analyzed and disaggregated. A similar study is also being undertaken in project site areas of Barishal, Bangladesh and the methodology is intended to allow a comparative study of the two cases.
