NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

The objective of this TA Study was to assist the Government in preparing a detailed proposal for the Crop Diversification Project which aimed at contributing to the Government's development objective of poverty reduction through agricultural development in gender and crop diversification in particular.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED

The TA Study examined (i) the agricultural extension services in Nepal for crop diversification; (ii) the production and marketing potential of important cash crops in the proposed project area; (iii) past external assistance in the agriculture sector including the Bank’s ongoing projects, and lessons learned; (iv) detailed cost estimates and financing plan; (v) capabilities of institutions involved in the project implementation; (vi) environmental and social impacts, including poverty and gender issues; (vii) benchmark data and information for benefit monitoring and evaluation as specified in the project framework; (viii) financial and economic returns; and (ix) other specific issues identified during the study phase.
