NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

CEAPRED Proposes intervention on the pig sub sector to help pilot, scale-up and bring about systemic changes that helps the market system to function effectively and inclusively creating right condition for improved economic growth and poverty reduction. In addition it also provides linkages to basic services to build capacity and opportunities for the poor to bring about sustainable and systemic changes in the pig industry of Nepal. The project will work to stimulate market players and services providers for overall growth of the pig and pork industry of Nepal, embracing market systems development approach as opposed to traditional livelihood and value chain development approaches. The project is designed to realize systemic change by unlocking key systemic constraints in the pig and pork market system. facilitating to improve the capacity and incentive of key market system players to expand their business services especially in the pig rearing areas by piloting pig and pork related innovative business models that ensure win-win relationship in demand, supply and transaction side of the service market

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED

CEAPRED will be intervening in three major areas of Pig and Pork rearing and market systems of Nepal

ii) Catalyze a viable pig feeds and feeding systems

  • i) Facilitate a sustainable pig breeding system
  • Facilitate the private breeder farmers to produce pure as well as crossbred piglet for fatteners mediated by local Agro-vet/VAHW working with small village pig breeder group-Bhuni group (sow family group) or Saruwa group (boar family group) at the VDC level.
  • Facilitate the pig sector market players to strengthen the unstructured and unorganized linkages to catalyze the pig industry and to promote an efficient crossbred piglet as an end product which adds value towards the overall enterprise performance of the sector.
  • Assist the private sector to disseminate knowledge and research information effectively to promote innovation and investments in the pig sub-sector.
  • Strengthening the private sector:
  • Stimulate the pig sector market players for a more vibrant sector that strengthens the weak linkages within the sub-sector
  • Facilitate the private sector to establish an organized, structured, and sustainable pig breeding system
  • iii) Enabling the private entrepreneurs to promote hygienic pork production, processing and market led diversification
