National Interactive Workshop on Vegetable Seed Marketing Situation Analysis Concluded

National Interactive Workshop on Vegetable Seed Marketing Situation Analysis was organized on 8th January, 2010 in Lalitpur. The workshop was divided into two sessions - opening and technical. Dr. Hari Dahal, Joint Secretary, MoAC chaired the opening session and the technical session was chaired by Dr. Hari Krishna Upadhyaya, Executive Chairperson of CEAPRED.

In the technical session, two technical papers were presented. The first paper entitled “Present Situation of Vegetable Seed Production and Marketing and Future Strategy in Nepal” was jointly presented by Mr. Gopal Shrestha and Mr. Kanchan Raj Pandey of DoA. The second paper entitled “Existing Vegetable Seed Trade Situation in Nepal: Boarder Trade Survey Report” was jointly presented by Mr. Diwakar Poudyal and Mr. Sushil Raj Subedi of CEAPRED.

Presentations were followed by brief discussions where different issues were raised by the participants. Similarly, many valuable suggestions/feedbacks were obtained and more importantly, institutional commitments were shown by MoAC, CEAPRED, NARC and key seed entrepreneurs.

Mr. Indra Raj Pandey, Project Coordinator, PVSPR, highlighted the goal and objectives of the project “Promotion of Vegetable Seed for Poverty Reduction in Remote Areas of Nepal”

Welcoming all the guests and participants, Mr. Bharat Prasad Upadhyay, Executive Director, CEAPRED, focused on promotion of seed business as a sustainable sub-sector of agriculture for poverty reduction in remote areas based on comparative geographical advantage for seed production and competitive advantages of many vegetable crops.
